Costume process & pattern making:
Bunny’s costume was very exciting to me. Bunny as a character is elusive, she is a perfectionist in her craft and a dedicated performer. I knew her look had to be spectacular. For her costume, I wanted to have a velvet leotard as the base. While researching, I saw a lot of circus performer costumes with tassels attached to the leotards as skirts (like pictures 1 and 2 below). I thought it would be fun to use tiny glass beads instead of tassels!
Here I am sewing them on, 4 hours turned into 40 seconds. They added lots of wonderful movement to her performance, however if I were to do it again I would definitely wire each strand of beads- so that I could animate them when she swings on the trapeze. Her boots were inspired by 19th century trapeze/ aerial boots (similar to those in picture 3) and are perhaps my favorite element of her entire ensemble.
