'Dendrite' is a passion project combining my love for painting and fashion design into a 5 piece collection with hand painted textiles. I began by tacking a large piece of heavyweight muslin to the wall and painting directly onto it. The paintings were abstract forms loosely inspired by dendrite formations (short, branched extensions of nerve cells) and vein patterns. I then transformed those painted textiles into a wearable collection. The first look was a strapless babydoll dress constructed from panels of the painted muslin. The second was a leather bralette paired with a tiered maxi skirt made from the same fabric. The third look was a leather mini skirt and a resin top. This project allowed me to think about fashion design in a different light, and take the actual textile manipulation into consideration, rather than exclusively the garment construction.
