For ‘Stained’ I wanted to take something unloveable and transform it entirely. I used old bedsheets that were worn, stained and entirely unwanted. My main objective was to transform the material through texture. Bedsheets are limp and thin, so I tried to create the opposite. I folded, ironed, pleated, and pleated the fabric some more to create a sturdy, almost quilted texture that I then positioned over the dress form. I didn’t use patterns with this piece. It was liberating to just pin and intuitively decide where I wanted each portion of the pleating to fall. It was a good reminder that beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as a beautiful dress can come from an old, stained pair of bedsheets.
